Course overview

The MPL training is so called competency-based training. This means that students’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills are constantly evaluated throughout the various training phases. Crew Resource Management (CRM) and Threat and Error Management (TEM) are integrated into the whole MPL training. The objective is to instil the ability to clearly demonstrate attitudes expected of qualified first officers into the students and to ensure their smooth integration into airline operations. The graduate should constantly show sensible attitudes, cooperative approach in the crew and solid situational awareness.

The core theoretical course is made of 750 hours of ATPL(A)-level theory and approximately 100 hours of additional general and aviation English tuition in form of individual courses. These hours include classroom work, computer-based training, e-learning (with the use of an administration and student progress evaluation system) etc. The amount of hours depends on the requirements of the future employee of MPL students.

The flight training contains glider training followed by a single-engine piston airplane training. Multi-engine and multi-crew cooperation training is done in an ATR FNPT II training device. The students then progress to the next phase, the Jet Orientation Course (JOC), where they learn to handle normal and emergency situations after the transition from a piston to a jet engine aircraft. Most flight training is done in full flight simulators (FFS) with level D or CG certification.
