Prerequisites

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to speak and react in both standard and non-standard situations they may encounter while on duty, including flight preparation and emergency situations. Candidates should demonstrate an understanding of METARs, TAFs, NOTAMs, and related documents written in English; departure and approach charts, flight plans, and manuals written in English, etc..

Required level – B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference/ICAO level 4.There is no need to present any certificate of completion of the Aviation English course. You must register for the exam at least 14 days in advance.

If the candidate cannot attend the exam on the scheduled date, a written apology is required in advance.

Exam description

The examination consists of a written and an oral part. Candidates who pass the written part (minimum 75%) will proceed to the oral interview. If a candidate fails the oral part, he/she repeats only that part. A retake is possible no earlier than 30 days after the last date of the examination. The number of attempts is unlimited. There is a break of approximately one hour between the written and oral parts to correct the tests (depending on the actual number of candidates). Candidates‘ identity will be verified before the written and oral tests begin.

Written part - 60 min

The written test consists of several parts covering grammar, vocabulary and reading comprehension in the context of aviation English, as well as aviation abbreviations and phraseology. The written test is in English only.

Oral part - approx. - 30 min

A) Introductory part (Common conversation on various topics – professional, general, etc.)

B) ATIS – Listening (authentic listening, analysis, discussion)

C) Situation – (Standard and non-standard situations, questions related to the profession, abbreviations, phraseology, NOTAMs, METARs, TAFs, position reports, manuals – short translation, etc.)

Two examiners – (language specialist and pilot-examiner), approved by the CAA on the basis of proven training and experience, are always present during testing.

An audio recording of the test is made and evaluated by both examiners.

Successful candidates will receive a certificate.
