This course is designed for servicing large aeroplanes, with a maximum type certified passenger capacity of 30 or more or a maximum certified payload capacity of 3402 kg or more.

Duration

8 hrs

1.    Course Phase 1 intended for:

  • Maintenance management
  • Personnel of the competent authorities responsible as per 145.B.30 for the oversight of Part-145 approved maintenance organizations

 

2.    Course Phase 2 intended for:

  • Personnel of the Part-145 approved maintenance organization required to plan, perform, supervise, inspect and certify the maintenance of aircraft and fuel system components

 

3.    Entry requirements

  • None

 

4.   Course levels, content and objectives

Phase 1 level:

  • AWARENESS – Familiarization with the principal elements of the subject

Phase 1 content:

  • Examples of FTS incidents and accidents
  • Description of concept of fuel tank safety
  • Examples of manufacturers´ documents showing FTS items
  • FTS typical defects examples
  • Repair data examples
  • Examples of maintenance instructions for inspection

Phase 1 objectives = student shall:

  • Be familiar with the basic elements of the FTS issues
  • Be able to give the simple description of the historical background and the elements requiring a safety consideration
  • Be able to use typical terms

Phase 2 level:

  • DETAILED TRAINING – theoretical and practical elements of the subject

Phase 2 content:

  • Understanding the background and the concept of fuel tank safety
  • Recognition, interpretation and handling of the improvements in the instruction for continuing airworthiness that have been made or are being made regarding fuel tank system maintenance
  • Awareness of any hazards

Phase 2 objectives = student shall:

  • Have knowledge of the history of events related to fuel tank safety
  • Have an overview of the regulations
  • Give a detailed description of the concept of fuel tank system ALI
  • Have the capacity to combine and apply the separate elements of knowledge in a logical and comprehensive manner
  • Be able to identify the components or the aircraft subject to FTS from the manufacturer´s documentation
  • Be able to plan action or apply a Service Bulletin and an Airworthiness Directive
